Scientists in Russia have grown plants from fruit stored away in permafrost by squirrels over 30,000 years ago, according to the BBC.
My friend Dave Weingart sent the link with the comment, "Maybe not all squirrels are evil."
My answer: HA! I'm sure those squirrels from ancient times were storing away those seeds as part of their plot to take over the world. Do the scientists REALLY know the longterm ramifications of nurturing those miniature potential time bombs into maturity?
This only goes to show you how deviously patient these squirrels can be.

"I love stitching things with a squirrel theme. I actually like the little beggars. And the Red Squirrel is becoming somewhat rare in its home territory (England). My only fear: This depiction of squirrels gives people the mistaken impression that squirrels are cute and loveable while downplaying their Evil Horde World Domination aspect.
I did some hunting around, and it looks as if the image is from Happy Gloves: Charming Softy Friends Made From Colorful Gloves (HP Trade, 2008) by Miyako Kanamori. The info about how to make the animal softie was provided on this Etsy post courtesy the Penguin Group.
